Kondawgyi Temple

Type of monument : Type II Temple
Location : South of Thetkyamuni
Region : Nyaung U & Wetkyi-In
Built by : Unknown
Date : 13th Century
Monument Number : 151

The Kondawgyi probably derives its name, "Great Holy Mound", from its situation on a mound. Situated close to Thetkyamuni; appears to belong to 13th century A.D.

Unlike Thetkyamuni it has a stupa spire above the terraces. The interior walls are adorned with paintings of fine floral patterns and Jataka stories with lines of Burmese writing identifying them.
